Bi Bi (grandma Dawn) got Ava special wrapping paper for her first Christmas. She got the other grandkids special wrapping paper too.

Cole (Josh's cousin Mandy's baby) and Ava. They were so cute together and seemed really interested in each other.

Our Christmas adventures started on the 17th of December. We had planned on leaving the 18th, but bad weather was on its way so we decided to get going a day earlier. Our first stop was Muscatine, Iowa where we had Christmas with my family. Everyone was able to make it despite the icy weather the day before. On the 21st we headed out after breaking two ice scrapers and loading up. We picked up Louis and Carly (Josh's brother and his girlfriend) in Iowa City and started the long trip to Colorado. At 11:30 pm we stopped somewhere in eastern Colorado for the night. We were able to make it to Steamboat Springs, Colorado where Josh's mom lives by early afternoon on the 22nd. On the 24th everyone ventured out to either ski, snowboard, or go to the spa. Carly and I decided to go to the spa where we got pumpkin wraps, massages, and pedicures. It was a nice day. Hayden went to the resort daycare for the day (next year they will add skiing to the day of activities) while Josh tried snowboarding and Ava was with a babysitter for a few hours. The whole clan met up at a slopeside restaurant in the afternoon. The daycare gives a nice report of what he did and he enjoyed storytime the most.

On the 25th we waited for Gabe to get out of bed before we could open gifts. I don't know what child sleeps in on Christmas Day, but he did. Haha. Santa left him a nice letter, a Santa cookie, and a candy cane. After everyone open gifts and their stockings we all got ready really fast and went out for breakfast. The rest of the day was just games and hanging out. I got all of our suitcases ready to be loaded up in the morning.

We left Colorado on the 26th and tons of snow was expected so we got out as quickly as we could. The snow in the mountains was so bright that Josh wore his ski goggles just so he could see better. After getting out of the mountains a car was swerving headed our way, but the driver corrected himself and headed into the ditch after hitting a road sign. We pulled over as well as the car behind them and they were ok. We saw several cars on the side of the road. Not a fun way to start a vacation for them. Just after we got on I-80 in Nebraska the roads were looking wet and the other side was slowing down. I slowed down too, but it didn't seem icy. There must have been some black ice because we were seeing cars flipped on their tops in the ditch. We slowed down to about 30 mph and Josh called the hotline for road conditions. Luckily it was only bad for about 20 miles. We stopped for the night just before Omaha and between Des Moines and Iowa City the westbound traffic was slowed to a standstill and the semis' wheels were spinning. There wasn't an accident, but traffic was stopped on that side. People were getting out of their cars trying to figure out what was going on and almost falling down. I guess we were lucky that our side wasn't affected. After dropping off Louis and Carly we headed to Burlington to visit the rest of Josh's mom's family. We had a good time and visited Josh's great grandma Heiniger while we were there. When we left there the roads were extremely icy so we decided to stay in town until the salt trucks could get out. We made it back to Muscatine on the 28th and finished up our visit with my parents. On the 30th we decided it was time to get home so we could get things put together and put away before Josh went back to work.

Ava is 4 Months Old!

Ava is wearing the dress that my Aunt Diana got for me when I was a baby. I miss her and I only wish that she was alive to see her in it.

Yesterday we went for Ava's four month checkup and she is 13 lbs. 4 oz., 24 inches long, and her head circumference is 16 inches. She is just under 50% for all measurements. Ava is such a happy baby. She's always smiling and talking. She loves to sit up and loves to play under her activity gym. She's an amazing sleeper and I can't remember the last time either of us had to wake up to feed her. It's usually Hayden that wakes her up in the morning.

Hayden is 18 Months!

Hayden had his check up today and he weighs 26 lbs. 12 oz. and is 33 inches tall. He has a predicted height of 5'10"--- just like his DADDY, but it'll be most accurate at age 2 and beyond. After his checkup we headed to Cookie Cutters for a haircut. Hayden is into just about everything and can be very sneaky. He runs and climbs and likes kicking his ball with Daddy and having Mommy read him tons and tons of books. He's also gone on the potty more times than I can count!! He's looking forward to playing in the snow in Colorado for Christmas and next year he'll get to learn how to ski!!!

Our Long Weekend

Grandma holding sweet Ava

Hayden was insisting on wearing Daddy's hat

A lot of kids are scared of Santa at this age, but Hayden was acting very serious. :)
Hayden's first ride in a moving toy car. He was so excited and his face lit up with a huge smile when it started.

We had a nice long weekend visiting with family and hanging out at home. On Thanksgiving we went over to Pat's for dinner. Mom brought pies and I brought stuffed mushrooms. There were two turkeys, two kinds of stuffing, mashed potatoes, cranberry sauce, squash, sweet potatoes, candied yams, scalloped corn, rolls, green bean casserole, oyster dressing, and pumpkin soup. On Friday we drove up to Springfield to go see Santa Claus, but we weren't interested in doing any shopping other than for me to give my mom some ideas. I don't really want or need too much this year. For dinner we went to one of Josh's favorite places-- Red Robin. Saturday my parents left in the morning because they wanted to go to St. Louis to test drive a Smart Car they have on order and my dad likes to have a day of rest before he goes back to work so Saturday we spent putting up our Christmas tree and a few other decorations. Hayden is fighting a bad cough/cold right now so he's been taking super long naps. We had the tree up and trimmed by the time he woke up.

Happy Thanksgiving

Today on this bright and sunny Thanksgiving I have many things to be thankful for. I am forever thankful for my beautiful family. My loving and supportive husband is such a blessing. We laugh together, cry together, and share in many conversations and discussions together. There isn't anything we don't share with each other and we are so close. Hayden and Ava are beautiful and healthy. Hayden makes me smile everyday and he is just the sweetest and most giving child. Ava is such a joy and her smile lights up her whole face, which in turn, makes my heart melt. I couldn't ask for anything more. I'm thankful for my parents health and their support. They are always offering to come and visit and spend time with us and with Hayden and Ava. Josh enjoys learning how to fix things around the house from and likes sharing what projects he's interested in taking on. I have a wonderful sister I can call up anytime and share funny stories about Hayden or just have a good chat. I have two beautiful nieces I love and adore. Olivia is the most helpful and loving girl and Emma is a sweetheart and a hoot! I am so happy my sister found her loving husband to take care of her. I am extremely thankful for friends-- especially a big group of women who I've become so close to since being pregnant with Hayden. We tell each other how it is, lean on each other for support and a shoulder to cry on, and share many laughs. If anyone has a problem or needs some parenting advice we are all there for each other. I could not have gotten through two painful pregnancies without them. God is good on this Thanksgiving in 2008!

Giddyup!

Ava received this outfit as a gift after she was born. She's a cowgirl just like her Bibi (remember that's Swahili for Grandma).

Happy 3 Months Ava

Original Video - More videos at TinyPic

Our baby girl is three months old. She's a very interested and curious baby. She loves to be held sitting up so she can look at everything going on around her. She smiles at her big brother and loves when Mommy and Daddy come get her in the morning by giving a big smile. She's a great sleeper and has been sleeping through the night for awhile now.

So You Think You Can Dance....

Well check out Hayden!!!

Original Video - More videos at TinyPic

Hayden loves the theme song to the Backyardigans. A friend of mine was always talking about how her little boy loved the show so I DVR'd some episodes and Hayden just stops what he's doing and gets the biggest grin on his face whenever it comes on. It is hilarious. After the theme is over he's off to whatever he was doing before.

A Few New Pictures

I had to make some crazy faces to get that smile

It may not be the Christmas season officially in the rest of the country, but in Branson it's in full force so here's a few pics of the kids in a Christmas outfit.

Hayden is 17 Months

My baby boy is getting bigger and becoming more like a little boy every day. His favorite book is Where the Wild Things Are and Over the Moon (Goodnight Moon, Runaway Bunny, and My World). He loves playing with Mega blocks and his board books. He's a great eater and there isn't too much he doesn't like, although he goes through phases like any toddler. He loves his baby sister and is always giving her hugs and kisses. He's a great sleeper and it's very rare for him to wake up in the middle of the night. He almost always goes down without a fuss after teeth brushing and reading a million books (ok only 4). He still goes to the play room at Josh's work occasionally so he can be around some other kids and everyone just loves him. Many workers will stop by just to see him-- especially if they're having a bad day. They say they need their Hayden fix.
