Our Weekend Visit

Sporting a new haircut

Caught!
Sneaky Hayden snagged the spatula from the pumpkin bars that grandma made and hid in the corner to lick the spatula. Grandma let him have a few extra licks before we put it away.
Josh is becoming interested in wood working. He got a table saw with part of our Christmas money and he got a shop vac for his birthday from my parents. For my share of the Christmas money I got a kitchen island for extra storage and counter space that I should get a picture of soon (and I put it together myself!).
Dad showing Josh the How to Use your Table Saw book that will be sure to come in handy as Josh is learning. He plans to build a workbench in our 3rd garage as his first project.

Last weekend we went up to Iowa to visit my family and we brought Charlotte with us since they are watching her while we go on vacation. We needed an excuse to visit and Charlotte hates to be caged up. We got there after midnight on Friday and got home Sunday night close to midnight again.

Two Special Birthdays

On Sunday Josh turned the big 3-0! We celebrated by having the Schmickles over for food and games. The kids had fun playing in the afternoon and then we all had the evening to play Settlers of Catan and then the boys played some PS3 football. Josh got the Piloti driving shoes he's been wanting for a long time.

Ava also turned 6 months! As you can tell she is the happiest baby. Her Dr. appointment was on Tuesday and she's doing everything she should be doing including blowing lots of raspberries. She weighed 16 lbs. 1oz, was 25 inches long, and her head circumference was 17 inches. The Dr. felt she was measured too short, but didn't remeasure her. Her head circumference jumped from 50% to 75%, but she's not concerned. She's been really slow to take solids, but with more practice she should get it soon enough.

We enrolled Hayden in Kindermusik along with Carlye and Jack and Lena and Cora and Quincy. What is Kindermusik? Here is the website's description:

What is Kindermusik? Simply put, Kindermusik is a music and movement program. Each week in class you’ll play, listen, and dance to music that will impact you and your child in profound ways. That’s because every song, story, and two-step has a carefully chosen purpose in this creative curriculum—one that’s designed to stimulate and strengthen the vital neural wiring taking place in your child’s mind, right now. A Kindermusik educator will guide you every step of the way so you know how each activity contributes to your child’s overall growth and development.

The latest research with proven methods—that’s Kindermusik, too. Our child-centered curricula incorporate ongoing, in-classroom studies with our own, 30-years’ experience in music and child development. Plus, we’ve combined the best music learning methods found in Orff, Kodaly, and Suzuki.

“Take-home” books, instruments and CDs from class let you take learning with you wherever you go. All while strengthening the emotional bond between you and your child.

So whether it’s twirling under a sea of scarves, experimenting with age-appropriate instruments, singing about a scampering squirrel, creating a musical ensemble, or snuggling in your lap during story time, Kindermusik speaks your child’s language and offers her (and you!) the best music and movement class available.

Happy Valentine's Day

Here is Ava holding the teddy bear Daddy got her for V day. Recently we pulled down the exersaucer from the attic and she loves it. Thank you Grandma Debbie/Papa Denny and Great Grandma and Great Grandpa Neally for the Valentines.

Off to the Park

Well it's been in the 60s the last couple days so the three of us went to the park yesterday and we all went today. Hayden has a blast running around and climbing all over the jungle gym.

Here are some more summer outfits I picked up for the kids. Some of Ava's I found in excellent used condition while one was just an older outfit still new with the tags for a much lower cost. Hayden is wearing size 2T tops with 18-24 adjustable waist bottoms that are cinched quite a bit. Some of his 12-18 month shorts could fit him for this year, but I haven't tried them on him again yet. Hopefully a couple pair will fit again for this year.

After dinner Hayden was having fun entertaining Ava and she was getting a huge kick out of him.

"What's that Elmo?"

Hayden got Elmo Live for Christmas and he truly loves it. When Elmo falls over he says, "Uh oh Elmo fell down. Will you pick Elmo up please?" So Hayden puts him upright and says, "Oh thank you. You're Elmo's best friend." Hayden hugs him too. He actually got this gift early because Josh was really excited to give it to him.
